Selaiyur (Tamil: சேலையூர்)
is a town near Tambaram, Chennai. This town is located on the Tambaram -
Velachery Road. Once upon a time, this place was called as Silaiyur. Neighbouring towns include Tambaram, Madambakkam, Rajakilpakkam, Sembakkam, Chitlapakkam and Medavakkam.
it has the airforce station and serves dwellings for most of the
retired airforce families and there are mixed of people like north
indians, andhraites, keralites etc... it has lot of colleges so its a

The temple has gained prominence in recent years. It has
been renovated a year back. This temple is located at Mahalakshmi
Nagar, Selaiyur, Chennai - 600 073.
This was built by Sathguru Srimad Shanthananda Swamigal who hails from the Avadhoota tradition
of Saints, this temple pays a living tribute to the glory of Hinduism.

Sadhguru Santhananandha Swamigal
One of the most illustrious seers of our time, Sathguru Srimad
Shanthananda Swamigal was the very embodiment of the Divine. Hailing
from a glorious lineage of Avadhootha saints, Sathguru Sri
Shanthananda Swamigal has been the torchbearer of Hinduism and its
sanctity. Alleviating the sufferings of humanity has been his primary
concern. He has advocated the greatness of Japa and Homa as a means to
achieve peace and prosperity. Sathguru Sri Shanthananda Swamigal has
been the fountainhead of infinite love & compassion and has bestowed
solace to many. He is the guiding spirit and an epitome of peace to
his devotees who regard him as the incarnation of Goddess
Bhuvaneshwari. Besides Chennai Om Sri Skandasramam, Sathguru Srimad
Shanthananda Swamigal has built the Judge Swamigal Adhishtanam at
Pudukkottai, Om Sri Skandasramam at Salem and Dattagiri at
Sendamangalam. This beautiful statue of Sri Shantanada Swamigal in
Marble is placed on the left hand side of Goddess Bhuvaneswari and is 4
½ feet in height. This gopuram represents the Tamilnadu type of
architecture.

Vinayakar
Sri Kamala Siddhi Vinayagar appears in golden colour and is around 6 1/2
feet. He is seated on a Lotus having four hands which carry a flower,
mango, sugarcane and the parasu. He holds the Kalasam in his trunk
and has the `mooshikam’ as his vehicle which is below. The statue is
made up of stone. He is regarded as the destroyer of all sins and the
remover of obstacles. He bestows Peace and well-being on his devotees.
Kamala Siddhi Vinayakar is installed to the right hand side of
Goddess Bhuvaneswari. Around this sannadhi are installed Yoga
Ganapathy and Uchchista Ganapathy. This gopuram represents the Tamilnadu
type of architecture.

The temple has a sannidhi dedicated to Goddess Bhuvaneshwari, the
Universal Mother. The 6-foot stone icon radiates beauty, peace and
grace. Goddess Bhuvaneshwari is regarded as Shrividhya or Lalitha Maha
Tripura Sundari. It is believed that the 10 incarnations (Dasavatara)
of Lord Vishnu emerged from the 10 fingernails of Goddess
Bhuvaneshwari. She holds the noose to draw the devotee closer to her,
angusam to rid the devotee of their sufferings. Her abhaya hastham
confers blessings and prosperity to the devotee. One eye of Goddess
Bhuvaneshwari who is one of the Dasamahavidya is regarded as Raja
Mathangi, who bestows prosperity and erudition and the other that of
Varahi- the Commander-in-chief of the celestial army, who protects
devotees from all evil. The other Dasamahavidya deities Kali, Tara,
Shodasi, Tripurabhairavi, Cinnamastha, Dhumavati, Bagalamuki,
Rajamathangi, Kamalathmika are installed around the sannadhi. This
gopuram represents the Tamilnadu type of architecture.

Lord Sarabeswara (form of Shiva)
According to Hindu mythology Lord Shiva sends Veerabhadra to quell the
anger of Lord Narasimha after the latter had vanquished the demon King
Hiranyakashipu. Unable to control the turbulence of Lord Narasimha,
Veerabhadra pleads to Lord Shiva for help. A shaft of light enters
Veerabhadra who assumes the magnificent form of Lord Sarabeswara. The
12-foot icon of Sri Veera Sarabeswara at Chennai Skandasramam is
half-bird and half-beast, with two wings bearing Goddess Prathyankira
and Goddess Soolini on either side. The face is that of a Yali.
Sarabeswara bears a deer, battleaxe, snake and fire in his four hands.
He also bears Bhairava and Agni in his abdomen. Two of his four feet
rest on a mountain. The benign grace of Lord Veera Sarabeswara is said
to protect devotees from all kinds of malevolent forces. The Asta
bhairavar’s `Achithanga Bhairavar, Ruru Bhairavar, Chanda, Krodana,
Kabala, Unmatha, Bheeshana, Samkara, svarnakarshana Bhairavar are
installed around the Sannadhi. This gopuram represents the Tamilnadu
type of architecture.

Goddess Prathyankira
Facing the Sannidhi of Lord Veera Sarabeswara is the 12-foot panchaloka
icon of Goddess Ugra Prathyankira also known as Atharvana Bhadrakali.
She is also referred to as Aparajitha – the invincible. She is
believed to have emerged from the fire emanating from the third eye of
Lord Sarabeswarar. It was Goddess Prathyankira who aided in subsiding
the anger of Lord Narasimha. She is lion – faced and is seated on a
lion. Her four hands bear a noose in the form of a snake, trident,
hand-drum and bowl (kabaala paathram). She wears a garland of skulls.
In this Kali yuga, where evil is manifest in varied forms, Goddess
Prathyankira is regarded as the saviour of mankind, alleviating the
sufferings of humanity. She possesses the power to offset the
influences of black magic. Though fearsome in appearance, she is the
very embodiment of benevolence and grace to her devotees. Navadurgas
`Sri Sailaputri, Sri Brahmacharini, Chandrakande, Kushmande,
Skandamatha, Kathayayini, Kalarathri, Mahagauri and Sidhithathri’ are
installed around this sannadi. This gopuram represents the Tamilnadu
type of architecture.

Swaminathaswamy (Skanda)
It is significant that Lord Swaminatha Swamy (Skanda) is enshrined
facing the Universal Mother, Bhuvaneshwari. The icon of Skanda stands
in great splendour at a height of 12 feet. All the deities at Chennai
Om Sri Skandasramam are colossal to enable the devotee to see the eyes
and feet clearly and thereby obtain their complete grace. Around this
sannadhi are installed the different forms of Lord Muruga in the
`Arupadai veedu’ – Swamimalai, Tirutani, Tiruparankundram, Palani,
Pazhamudircholai, Tiruchendor apart from Murugan of Kadirkamam,
Balamurugam and Lord Subramanya swami. This gopuram represents the
Tamilnadu type of architecture.

Panchamukha Hanuman
Sri Panchamuga Anjaneya appears with 5 faces, ten hands and is 14 feet
in height. His five faces are the embodiment of Lord Anjaneya in the
east, Lord Narasimha in the South, Garuda in the west, Varaha in the
North and Lord Hayagriva at the top. The five faces of the five Gods
protects the devotees in five fold ways. Lord Anjaneya is a destroyer
of enemies, Lord Narasimha is the remover of all kinds of Fears,
Garuda is a remover of all kinds of ailments, Varaha is a bestower of
Prosperity and Lord Hayagriva is a bestower of Knowledge. Thus he is
seen as the very epitome of infinite grace and blessings to his
devotees. This idol made up of stone is placed in the `Vayu moolai’ in
between West and North in this temple right opposite Lord Saniswara and
around this sannadhi are installed Bhakta Hanuman and Veera Hanuman.

Panchamukha Heramba Ganapathy
Sri Panchamuga Heramba Ganapathy is one of the 32 Ganapathi’s. This 12 feet Ganapathy is seated on a lion and has five elephant heads and ten arms which carry the noose, goad, rudraksha garland, pownder, battle axe and cord. He is regarded as the embodiment of the 5 Ganapathis - Maha Ganapathi, Siddhi Ganapathi, Vidhya Ganapathi, Shakthi Ganapathi and Moksha Ganapathi. His five faces, four facing each direction and the fifth facing the sky represent the forms of Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, Lord Brahma, Goddess Shakthi and Lord Surya. The five natural elements, such as the earth, fire, water, air and ether are believed to have emanated from him. He is the Supreme One who co-ordinates and executes the five-fold works of creation, sustenance, destruction, causing of disappearance and granting of the divine grace. He is also known as Achabhura Ganapathi and is placed in the `Kanni Moolai’ in between South and West in this temple. Around this sannadhi are installed the Bala Ganapathy and Lakshmi Ganapathy. This gopuram represents the Orissa type of architecture.

Dattatreya
Born as the son of the great sage Athri and his wife Anusuya, Lord
Dattatreya is the very embodiment of the Trinity – Lord Brahma, Lord
Vishnu and Lord Shiva. The Veda says that the Trinity are the
different forms of the one and only Supreme Being and Lord Dattatreya
stands as a classic representative of this profound truth. He is the
primordial symbolization of the Supreme Truth and Reality. He is the
one of the ultimate manifestations of the divine in a tripartite form
representing Creation, Sustenance and Withdrawl. Lord Dattatreya has 3
heads and 6 hands. His hands weild a trident, rosary, lotus, discus,
conch and a water-pot. He is represented as a Sannyasi and stands for
the principles of detachment and renunciation. His 4 watch dogs are
the 4 Vedas. The stone idol of Lord Dattatreya is installed as a 15
feet idol in the `Agni Moolai’ in between East and South in this
temple right opposite Panchamukha Heramba Ganapathy. He is revered as
the divine preceptor or the Guru and is the fountainhead of the
Avadhuta Tradition. He is the bestower of Bhakti and Mukthi on his
devotees. Around this sannadhi Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Siva
are installed. This gopuram represents the Orissa type of
architecture.

Saneeswarar
Lord Saniswara is one of the most important planets of the Navagraha. He
is also the bestower of benevolent grace, though at times the devotee
faces problems when Lord Saniswara is places in a malevolent position
in the horoscope. In order to appease Him and receive his bountiful
Grace devotees offers prayers and special offerings to him. Only in a
few temples do we see a separate sannadhi for Lord Saniswara like in
Skandasramam where this idol made up of stone is 14 feet in height and
is placed in the `Esanya Moolai’ in between North and East right
opposite Lord Panchamukha Hanuman. Since Lord Saniswara is facing Lord
Hanuman it is believed that whoever is in the clutches of Sani will not
face much of problems. Lord Saniswara is in the standing posture with
one leg on his vehicle the crow while the other leg is placed on the
ground. Around the sannadhi are installed the different forms of Lord
Saniswara. The gopuram is like the Orissa type of architecture.

Sri Dharma Shastha is well known as Harihara Suthan – the son of Lord
Shiva and Lord Vishnu (in His avatar as Mohini). Lord Ayyapan is the
protector of Dharma and Rigteousness, and is the destroyer of evil.
His right hand shows the Gnana Mudra which represents knowledge and
his Left hand shows the Vara Mudra which represents the granting of
boons. He is the guardian of Dharma in this world. Chennai Om Sri
Skandasramam has a huge 7 foot image of Lord Ayyapa the giver of
infinite boons, in a sitting posture and made up of five kinds of metal
called the panchaloka. He is positioned in the East facing the
Astadasabhuja Durga. The structure of the gopuram is like the Kerala
type of model. To his right is installed the Kanni Moolai Ganapathy.

Ashtadasabhuja Durga Parameswari,
Sri Ashtadasabuja Durga Parameswari is the very embodiment of Maha
Shakthi and is installed as a 6 feet idol. She is the Universal Mother
full of Benevolence and Grace and yet assumes the form of the
Protector of the down trodden. Her 18 hands hold different weapons,
including the trident of Lord Shiva, the discus of Lord Vishnu, the
conch of Varuna, the bow and arrows of Vayu, the Vajra of Indra etc.
Her vehicle is the lion. She resides in the Southern part, at the back
of Sahasralingam in this temple facing the North side. This gopuram
represents the Tamilnadu type of architecture.

Chennai Om Sri Skandasramam has installed a gigantic panchaloka idol of
Sri Maha Sudarshana Murthy (Chakarathazhwar) with Lakshmi Narasimhar
measuring about 18 feet.
At Chennai Om Sri Skandasramam Sri Narasimhar has his consort Mahalakshmi Thayar in his left lap and is holding her. Bhaktha Prahlada is in his right hand side standing and worshipping Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar.

Chennai Om Sri Skandasramam has installed a gigantic panchaloka idol of
Sri Maha Sudarshana Murthy (Chakarathazhwar) with Lakshmi Narasimhar
measuring about 18 feet. The speciality of this idol is that it has Sri
Sudarshana Murthy on the obverse and Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar (along with
his consort Sri Lakshmi) on the reverse. It is generally Yoga
Narasimhar who is found in the reverse. Sudharshana Chakra is regarded
as the primary weapon of Lord Vishnu. It is even believed to be the
incarnation of the Lord himself.
Around this sannidhi are installed the images of the Dasavatharas or the 10 avatars of Lord Vishnu.

Chennai Om Skandasramam has installed the Maha Sahasralinga Murthy,
which is 1007 lingams carved in a huge gigantic lingam making it a
total of 1008 lingams. This stone image stands about 9 and a 1/2 feet in
height.

Sri Chakra Poorna Maha Meru
In Hindu mythology Goddess Shakti is personified as the Sri Chakra
Poorna Maha Meru. At Chennai Om Sri Skandasramam, the four deities
face the 4 cardinal directions and in front of them, at the centre, is
installed the Sri Chakra Poorna Maha Meru in Panchaloka and is 5 ½
feet in height. It is believed that all the devathas have emerged from
the Meru and that Goddess Shakti herself resides in the form of
Shrividhya at the Bindu (top of the Meru). This gopuram represents the
Tamilnadu type of architecture. All the gopurams are installed
according to the Veda Sastra.
